After a sluggish start to the season, Aston Villa have recently started to find form again, but there are still issues that manager Unai Emery is dealing with – the biggest being a lack of goals due to Ollie Watkins’ poor form.
Watkins has only scored one goal in 15 appearances this season, which is a big problem for Aston Villa. With this in mind, the lack of goals will be resolved once the transfer window reopens.
Aston Villa hope to sign new striker in January
According to Football Insider, Mick Brown has revealed that Aston Villa want to sign a new striker to compete with Watkins.
“Aston Villa want to sign a top-class striker. The problem is that there are quite a lot of clubs who want to sign a new centre-forward and it’s not easy to find one at the right price.”
“When we brought in Marcus Rashford last season, he raised the level of the team because he gave us another option to lead the line, but now he’s gone and they haven’t replaced him. I’m a fan of Ollie Watkins, but he’s had a poor season by his standards and that’s starting to become a problem for Aston Villa. They don’t have a reliable scorer at the moment and that’s a big reason why they’re struggling to win some games.”
“I think bringing in a new striker will not only give them something different, but it will encourage Watkins to step up even more with him under threat of dropping out. At the moment they are sticking with him and are happy about that, but they don’t have a replacement player who can replace him while he struggles. That will be their priority in January, to get a new striker who can score goals.”
It will be difficult for Aston Villa to land a good deal in January given the club’s premium price tag. However, there is a strong desire to resolve this situation as soon as possible.
