Liverpool have been in very poor form over the past few weeks and their poor form continued with Sunday’s 3-0 defeat at Man City. Following this, the club has reportedly made a decision regarding Ibrahima Konate’s departure.

Much has been made in recent months about Konate’s future at Liverpool. His contract at Anfield expires next summer, so several clubs are considering signing him as a free agent, including Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have been determined to agree a new deal with Konate, but that sentiment has begun to wane and they are now prepared to cut ties with the 26-year-old.

According to Football Insider, manager Mick Brown has revealed that Liverpool would welcome Konate to leave next summer as he believes he can develop in the transfer market.

“Liverpool are looking at who they can sign to replace Konate. They are confident they can upgrade him because they had concerns about him for a while but he showed himself again against Man City.

“There was a clear strategy by City to play Liverpool to Konate and give him the ball. Then they would press, because he is prone to mistakes. That’s all you need to know about how he is viewed within the Liverpool team.”

“So from their point of view, I don’t think they’re worried that he might leave because the players are there that they can bring in to upgrade him. If he doesn’t sign a contract, whether it’s Real Madrid or Bayern Munich or any team in Europe, then they’re preparing for a future without him. I think they’re ready for that and it’s just a matter of who they can get.”

It remains to be seen how the situation with Konate will develop in the coming weeks, but it seems increasingly likely that Konate will leave Liverpool.
