Newcastle have made a very disappointing start to the Premier League season, continuing with a defeat against Brentford on Sunday. Eddie Howe’s side currently sit 14th in the league, having lost four of their six games.

Newcastle have had a great run in the Champions League and are in the process of competing again in the Carabao Cup, having reached the quarter-finals. However, the most important competition for the club’s supporters is the Premier League, but there is a lot of hate at the moment due to poor form.

This puts added pressure on Howe, who recently celebrated his fourth anniversary as manager at St James’ Park. Fans are becoming increasingly upset, but so far the board has emphasized that he has great confidence in the bank.

Howe has recently been linked with a potential move to become Man United manager, but remains backed by Newcastle’s owners PIF. According to Chronicle Live, the former Bournemouth head coach has a feeling he could turn things around on Tyneside, starting with a blockbuster game against Man City after the international break.

Newcastle have been disrupted by a number of injury problems, with the likes of Tino Livramento, Lewis Hall, Jacob Ramsey and Yoan Wissa spending much of their time on the sidelines. The latter is yet to feature in a Black and White game since his £55m move from Brentford in the summer, but is expected to feature against Man City.

The pressure is on Howe to start fulfilling his potential for Newcastle this season. There is a seven-point difference between them and the top four, so if they can maintain their good form, any doubts should be resolved.
