Justin Thomas announced Friday night that he underwent a microdiscectomy this week to repair a torn disc that was causing pain in his hip for the past few months. Thomas has since been released from hospital, but posted a video of himself standing up, showing that he is recovering well from the surgery.

Thomas has not given a timetable for his return to the golf course, but said it will be at least in time for the start of the 2026 PGA Tour season.

“The next few weeks will involve a lot of rest before the rehabilitation process begins,” Thomas wrote. “I have a great team behind me that I have full faith in to come back better than before! Before you ask, I don’t have any tournaments or a return date on my calendar. I will miss some events in early 2026, but I want to be very smart and patient until the disc is completely healed so it doesn’t happen again. I’m very fortunate that the game of golf allows me to play at a high level for a long time, and that’s what I’m trying to do – this procedure will help me live injury-free in the future. ”

The 2026 PGA Tour season will start later than usual. sentry has been canceled Due to the drought in Hawaii. Thomas has not set a target date and said he plans to be patient until the disc is fully healed to avoid any lingering problems.

In addition to missing PGA Tour events, Thomas will also not participate in the Skins Game Competition on Black Friday. He was scheduled to play Keegan Bradley, Tommy Fleetwood and Xander Schauffele at Panther National Golf Course in Florida. Thomas’ replacement was not immediately announced Friday.

Thomas will also miss the TGL season opener. The second year of the simulator golf league begins Dec. 28, and if Thomas misses any tournaments in the 2026 season, he will certainly miss at least part of the TGL season at Atlanta Drive.

The 2025 season was a return to form for Thomas, earning his first RBC Heritage win since 2022 and adding three runner-up finishes to his eight top-10 finishes. This performance earned Thomas a spot on the U.S. Ryder Cup team and put him back in the conversation among golf’s top players. Thomas’ performance tapered off in the second half of the year, with just one top-10 finish in the past six tournaments, but it has now been revealed that part of that was due to hip pain caused by a disc problem.
