  • Aston Villa sign Man City star James Trafford
  • Man City open to loan move for Trafford

Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez was on the verge of leaving the club in this summer’s transfer window.

The Argentine goalkeeper was linked with a move to Manchester United, but the Red Devils ended up signing Senne Lamence, with Martinez ultimately staying at Villa Park.

However, his form this season has been questionable and his long-term future at the club is under scrutiny.

Villa are looking for a new goalkeeper and have identified Premier League players who are struggling to get playing time at the club.

Aston Villa sign Man City star James Trafford

According to Football Insider, Aston Villa are interested in signing Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford.

Trafford, who moved to the Etihad Stadium from Burnley in the summer, was expected to challenge Ederson for a place in the starting XI.

Ederson left the club in the summer and signed Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain, instantly becoming their number one goalkeeper.

As a result, Trafford were dropped down the table, which affected his playing time.

Aston Villa are now taking advantage of that opportunity to sign Trafford, believing he could be Martinez’s long-term replacement at Villa Park.

Man City are open to Trafford leaving the club in the near future to continue his development, but only on loan. They still have faith in the English goalkeeper and feel he could be useful to them in the long term.

There is no doubting Trafford’s quality and he proved himself with Burnley in the Championship, but the goalkeeper is now looking for further opportunities in the Premier League and Aston Villa are ready to offer that.

A player of his caliber should be playing every week instead of sitting on the bench.

In addition to Villa, Newcastle United are also interested in the former Burnley goalkeeper.
