  • Aston Villa may have a chance to sign James Garner
  • Everton have no intention of letting Garner leave

According to Football Insider, Aston Villa are interested in signing Everton star James Garner.

Midfielder Garner’s future at Everton is uncertain as he approaches the end of his contract with David Moyes’ side.

The former Manchester United academy graduate is set to become a free agent next summer, with Premier League clubs eyeing the opportunity to sign him next year.

By January, he will be allowed to indulge in talks with other clubs towards pre-contractual agreements, with Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest ready to take advantage of the opportunity to sign the midfielder.

Everton’s advantage at the moment is that they have the option to extend his contract for another year.

However, players nearing the end of their contracts could easily be persuaded to leave by other clubs.

However, Everton will be worried about the midfielder’s future. This is because outside attention can be a major cause for concern for them.

Garner has made 11 Premier League appearances for the Toffees this season, scoring one goal and providing one assist.

Moyes recently praised the midfielder’s performance, as reported by the Chronicle.

“He’s been great since I came in. I probably didn’t realize how good he was. He was so good.

“He’s been playing great in midfield and he’s also played at full-back for me. I’ve said it a few times recently that he’s probably closer to being talked about in the England squad because of his performances.”

“By the way, there are a lot of good players in England, so it’s difficult (to choose) who will pick the team.

“I’ve been hearing discussions all week about the likes of (Phil) Foden and (Jude) Bellingham, but all I’m saying is that Jimmy is one of a group of young English midfield players who could be called up in the future.

“He’s done a great job for us, Jimmy, and is playing very well…”

Everton, who have already signed new deals with James Tarkowski and Jordan Pickford, are prepared to do the same to keep Garner at the club.

Aston Villa’s interest appears to be genuine, given the need for midfield reinforcements at Villa Park.

A player like Garner would be a versatile addition to Aston Villa and it is completely understandable why Unai Emery would want to sign him.
