NEW YORK – The United States Tennis Association announced Monday that former player Eric Butorac will replace Stacey Allaster as tournament director of the U.S. Open.

Butorac is USTA’s senior director of player relations and business development, and also served as tournament director for this year’s U.S. Open, a new event, mixed doubles.

“This is a dream come true in many ways and the culmination of my tennis life and career,” Butolak said.

He has been a professional tennis player for 14 years, ranked in the top 20 in the ATP doubles rankings, and was a doubles finalist at the 2014 Australian Open.

Butorac also served as president of the ATP Players Council.

He joined USTA in 2016 and served as tournament director for the Cincinnati Open in 2022.

“Eric has helped enhance the U.S. Open experience for both players and fans, and his leadership, insight and passion for the game make him the ideal person to lead the tournament’s next chapter of success,” said Brian Vahari, interim co-CEO of the USTA.

Allaster was appointed as the US Open’s tournament director in 2020, becoming the first woman to hold the position in the tournament’s history, which was first held in 1881. She has worked for the USTA since 2016 and previously served as president and CEO of the WTA Women’s Professional Tennis Tour.

Allaster will remain in his role as USTA’s chief executive of professional tennis until May, after which he will move into an advisory role with the organization.
