  • Liverpool are favorites to win ahead of Arsenal due to strengthened financial position
  • Why Liverpool are likely to go all out to sign Semenyo
  • Semenyo can play in multiple positions for Liverpool

Antoine Semenyo is one of the hottest signings heading into the January transfer window.

It was first reported that Bournemouth intended to sell their star player for a reasonable price in January.

Subsequent reports suggest the Cherries have been in contact with Liverpool, with Arne Slott’s side considered the frontrunners to sign him.

It has also been reported that Semenyo himself wants to move to Liverpool, despite strong interest from Arsenal and Tottenham.

It was previously reported that the player has a hidden termination clause in his current contract.

Liverpool are favorites to win ahead of Arsenal due to strengthened financial position

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Semenyo has a £65m release clause in his contract, which can be triggered during a limited period in January. This arrangement will give Bournemouth sufficient time to secure a replacement.

This clause will reportedly be further reduced in the summer, making it an even more attractive option in long-term plans.

A reliable transfer source added that Arsenal would need to offload one of their biggest stars to make a move happen in January, which would strengthen Liverpool’s position as title favorites.

Why Liverpool are likely to go all out to sign Semenyo

Despite Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak breaking English transfer records twice this summer, Liverpool’s attack has struggled to find a rhythm.

The departure of Luis Dias has left a hole on the left flank, while Kodi Gakpo has struggled to reproduce his former form. With Mohamed Salah’s surprising decline and absence from the upcoming AFCON, Liverpool lack reliable firepower.

This makes Semenyo an ideal target for the following reasons:

  • Proven track record in the Premier League
  • Instant adaptability
  • explosive athletic ability
  • Work amount and press strength
  • Elite versatility on the front lines

Semenyo can play in multiple positions for Liverpool

Semenyo’s biggest appeal is his versatility, allowing him to play multiple positions.

That’s why Semenyo provides Liverpool with both short-term cover and a long-term attacking solution at key points in the season.

If Liverpool were to trigger the release clause, they would be signing a player who is built to suit their system – a player who is dynamic, versatile and already performing at a high level in the Premier League.
