  • Man City want new left-back as competition intensifies
  • Guardiola is watching Brown with serious interest

Manchester City have set their sights on one of Germany’s most promising young defenders, with Bild newspaper reporting that Eintracht Frankfurt left-back Nathaniel Braun has been added to the club’s shortlist.

The 22-year-old has continued his rapid development since joining Eintracht Frankfurt from FC Nuremberg in 2024, emerging as one of the Bundesliga’s best full-backs this season.

Not only has Braun’s combination of talent, defensive quality and technical ability cemented his place in Frankfurt’s starting XI, but his first-team debut with the German national team in October proves how quickly his stock has risen.

Man City are interested as manager Josep Guardiola wants to improve the depth and competitiveness on the left side of his defence.

The club has rotated Nico O’Reilly and Rayan Ait-Nouri this season, but is looking to add young, versatile options who can contribute in multiple phases of play.

Brown fits that profile perfectly. A modern attack-minded full-back, he is able to flip into midfield, advance the ball under pressure and recover quickly in defensive transitions, qualities Guardiola is famous for demanding from his wide defenders.

Brown’s underlying numbers have also caught City’s attention. According to Bundesliga data, he ranks first among full-backs in terms of defensive duels won and progressive carries, and is also a major contributor in creating chances from wide areas.

Frankfurt are aware of the growing interest in their star defender and are reportedly preparing for significant interest from Europe’s elite as his value continues to rise.

Brown is seen as one of the club’s long-term core players, but with City also on their fan list, a transfer battle cannot be ruled out.

Man City are expected to keep a close eye on Brown over the coming months, particularly as they plan to rebuild their defensive structure.

The Premier League side has focused on playing in the Bundesliga in the past, with great success.

A number of players, including Erling Haaland, Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan, moved to England, joining Man City from the Bundesliga, and went on to impress in the Premier League.
