Crystal Palace sources are reportedly predicting that if Marc Guehy goes anywhere this January, it will be to Liverpool, despite being linked with other big clubs.
As reported by BBC Sport at the time, the England international’s move to Anfield at the end of the summer has fallen through, but his situation remains under scrutiny as his contract expires at the end of this season.
Guehi is sure to appeal to a number of top clubs as a free agent following his impressive spell at Palace, with the Daily Mail naming Manchester United as another team to watch in a recent report.
However, according to Sky Sports, Palace believe that if Gehi leaves in January, it will only be with Liverpool, with other clubs likely waiting to sign him on a free next summer.
Marc Gehi seems more likely to move to Liverpool than others
Despite not being able to complete a move to Liverpool in the summer, things have probably reached a very advanced stage, so it would be no surprise if Guehi is still determined to link up with Arne Slott’s side.
The 25-year-old could be a very important addition for LFC at the moment, as they are having issues with a contract rebel in Ibrahima Konate.
If Konate decides not to sign a new contract any time soon, it certainly makes sense for the Merseyside giants to acquire Guehi as soon as possible.
Still, Man United would no doubt also benefit from bringing in such a top defender, perhaps as a long-term replacement for the aging Harry Maguire.
Liverpool must already regret missing out on Marc Gehi
Liverpool’s defense has been pretty terrible this season, with Slott’s side already conceding 17 goals in their first 11 Premier League games.
For context, this is worse than clubs further down the table such as Everton, Crystal Palace, Brighton, Newcastle and Fulham.
In fact, if you look at the league table in order of most goals conceded, Liverpool are at a significant disadvantage compared to their title rivals Arsenal and Manchester City.
With Virgil van Dijk perhaps starting to show his age, there is clearly scope for a top centre-back like Guehi to join and strengthen the side.
If Liverpool had been able to bring in Guehi during the summer, they probably wouldn’t have been out of the title race by the time December arrived.
