Kurz acquires minority stake in Mercedes F1 team

CrowdStrike CEO and founder George Kurtz has purchased a minority stake in the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team and has been appointed technology advisor.

Kurz bought a 15% minority stake in the ownership controlled by Toto Wolff, who owns a third of the team alongside Mercedes-Benz and INEOS. This buy-in does not affect the team’s governance, and Wolf will continue in his existing executive role.

“Winning the race and winning in cybersecurity requires speed, precision, and innovation. Milliseconds matter. Execution matters. Data wins,” Kurtz said. “Technology is reshaping competitive advantage and human performance everywhere, including in motorsports, and we’re excited to help ensure teams move forward.”

Kurz’s ownership continues a relationship that began when CrowdStrike first joined the team as a technology partner in 2019.

“The breadth of George’s career is exceptional. He is a racer, a loyal sports ambassador for Mercedes-AMG and an extraordinary entrepreneur,” Wolff said.

“He understands both the demands of racing and the realities of building and scaling a technology business. That combination provides concrete insights that are increasingly relevant to the future of F1.”

In addition to his entrepreneurial and security expertise, Kurz has built a racing resume that includes wins and championships in several series, primarily in the LMP2 and GT classes.
