Wolves are interested in signing Independiente de Valle midfielder Patrick Mercado in January.

According to a report from El Diario, the Premier League site is closing in on a deal for the 22-year-old midfielder. They wanted to sign the player at the beginning of the season as well.

Several clubs are reportedly interested in the midfielder, including Sevilla, but Wolves are very close to signing him in January. The midfielder’s transfer fee is likely to be around 5.96 million euros.

The 22-year-old is highly rated and the Ecuadorian international would be a quality long-term signing for Wolves. It has been a disappointing season so far, with them yet to win a single game in the Premier League. They will be desperate to bounce back strong and will need quality players in January. This season, they will aim to stay in the top half.

It will be interesting to see if the South American midfielder can really break into the Premier League and establish himself as an important player for Wolves in the second half of the season.

The reported fee is quite low, and this player could be a bargain in the long run. The opportunity to showcase his qualities in the Premier League will be exciting for him.

Wolves are currently in advanced negotiations to complete the move and it will be interesting to see if they can wrap up the move quickly.

They should also look to improve the quality of their defensive unit. They have a very poor record at the back and need to tighten up if they are to survive up front.
