Manchester City are reportedly offering goalkeeper James Trafford to Newcastle United in a bid to sign Tino Livramento.
The Sky Blues signed Trafford from Burnley this summer, but soon followed up with another top-flight goalkeeper in Gianluigi Donnarumma, who is now clearly Pep Guardiola’s number one.
This is sure to cast big doubts over Trafford’s future, with TEAMtalk reporting that he could already be released by the club.
Libramento has been in good form for Newcastle and has often been linked as a target for Man City, who appear set to make another bid for the 23-year-old by adding Trafford to his deal.
Manchester City and Newcastle agree to a swap deal?
Whether this will definitely happen remains to be seen, but Newcastle were also one of the clubs Trafford was interested in during his time at Burnley, so this could be smart business for City.
The Magpies probably won’t be too keen on letting Librament go, but they could be tempted if it means they have another chance to bring Trafford to St James’ Park.
And fans wondering how to buy tickets for this weekend’s match between Newcastle and Manchester City should know that, if they can make it in time, club leaders will likely use the match as an opportunity to discuss this rumored swap deal.
What can Tino Libramento bring to Man City?
With Donnarumma’s presence, City clearly don’t need Trafford, but Livramento could quickly become an important player.
The talented young England international is capable of playing to a high standard at both right-back and left-back, and his versatility and intelligence seem to make him a good fit for Guardiola’s team.
It remains to be seen what his best position is, but he would probably suit City’s right-back role as an upgrade to Matheus Nunez.
MCFC already have Rayan Ait-Nouri and Nico O’Reilly on the left side, so there is probably less need for someone in that position.
Still, Libramento is a quality player who could get a chance with either team, and City fans are sure to be excited at the prospect of the former Chelsea man heading to the Etihad Stadium.
