Chelsea have reportedly made a series of inquiries this week about a possible transfer for Sporting Lisbon central defender Ousmane Diomando.
The talented young Ivorian international is also rumored to be a target for Crystal Palace, but TEAMtalk claims Chelsea could make a move for them.
According to the paper, the Blues have been keeping an eye on Diomand for a long time and it appears that interest in him has been rekindled.
TEAMtalk points out that Diomande’s transfer fee could possibly be around 50 million euros, which would be a club record with Palace.
Ousmane Diomand move makes sense for both Chelsea and Crystal Palace
Diomande impressed during his time at Sporting and it is no surprise that he is seen as a useful signing candidate by Chelsea and Palace.
The 21-year-old looks like he has a great future ahead of him at the highest level and it seems only a matter of time before we see him try himself at a bigger club or a more competitive league.
Diomande could be an ideal replacement for Marc Gehi, who is out of contract at Selhurst Park.
Meanwhile, Chelsea would also benefit from new defensive reinforcements following the injury to Levi Colwill and underwhelming performances from the likes of Trevor Chalobah and Tosin Adarabioyo.
Who else is on Chelsea’s list of defensive targets?
As previously reported, Chelsea are also eyeing Sven Botman as a potential signing to strengthen their defense, and Diomande could also be a good option for the west London giants to consider.
According to Ficajes, Nottingham Forest’s Murillo is also a target of CFC, which could be another interesting story to watch.
Finally, manager Simon Phillips named Chelsea and Ronald Araujo and Joel Ordonez in that position.
Chelsea fans, who would you like to see join the defence? Let us know in the comments!
