Hendrick Automotive Offloads SUV Stock to ICE in August Deal

In August, Hendrick Automotive Group inked a $2.25 million contract with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to supply 25 Chevrolet Tahoe vehicles. This deal, first revealed by the Washington Post and later covered by WBTV in Charlotte, North Carolina, highlights Hendrick Automotive’s ongoing partnerships with various government entities across political lines. Rick Hendrick, the owner of the group and a prominent NASCAR team owner, clarified in a statement to WBTV that these were standard Chevrolet Tahoes sold commercially without any modifications, branding, or involvement from Hendrick’s side after sale. The contract was awarded because Hendrick Automotive could promptly deliver the required vehicles to ICE, enabling immediate deployment to support law enforcement visibility, public safety, and recruitment efforts. ICE recently initiated border security operations in North Carolina, particularly around Charlotte, though it is not yet confirmed if these vehicles were used in those activities.

Fan Take: This contract underscores the diverse business interests of NASCAR figures like Rick Hendrick beyond racing, highlighting how their influence extends into national matters like law enforcement support. For NASCAR fans, it serves as a reminder of the sport’s broader community roles and the importance of agility and readiness, values that also resonate on the racetrack.
