Liverpool manager Arne Slott answered a question from a reporter regarding the possibility of Crystal Palace defender Marc Göch leaving in the January transfer window.
As we understand, the Reds remain confident of signing Guehi despite a deal for the England international falling through at the end of the summer transfer window.
After a difficult start to the season in which Liverpool have already conceded an alarming 17 goals in 11 league games, Slott could sign a new centre-back as soon as possible.
Guehi is nearing the end of his contract with Crystal Palace and is understandably the subject of speculation again as January approaches.
Arne Slott’s response to a question about Marc Gehi
Asked about signing Guehi or any other centre-backs, Slott said he was not thinking about it at the moment, but hinted that perhaps sporting director Richard Hughes was thinking about it…
Still, the overall message from Slott is that a new contract is of little concern at the moment for the Dutch tactician as he looks to get his team’s season back on track.
But at the same time, managers are known to be cautious about how they talk about transfers in public, so it may not be entirely true that Slott hasn’t given at least a little thought to a potential deal for Guehi or a similar one.
Marc Gehi appears to be urgently needed by Liverpool
LFC have been leaking goals all season, even when they were winning more games earlier in the campaign, so they certainly need to bring in a top quality player like Guehi as soon as possible.
Virgil van Dijk is not getting any younger and has had a below-average performance this season, while Ibrahima Konate may be distracted as he nears the end of his contract at Anfield.
Guehi could be an ideal long-term addition to improve Liverpool’s defence, but they may also need to sign another centre-back.
