The recent pound-for-pound rankings reveal some striking outcomes. The ongoing debate about the UFC’s pound-for-pound rankings continues to be contentious, with recent shifts at the top intensifying discussions.

Islam Makhachev secured a victory over Jacques Della Maddalena at UFC 322, making him the promotion’s 11th fighter to hold titles in two different weight classes. As predicted by Dana White, this win has propelled Makhachev back to the top spot in the pound-for-pound rankings. Consequently, the fighter who earned multi-division success just months prior has been moved to second place. But is this switch warranted? Bloody Elbow readers have weighed in…

Over 50% of fans support Makhachev reclaiming the pound-for-pound crown. In a Bloody Elbow Talking Points poll featuring seven options—Makhachev, Topria, Jon Jones, Khamzat Chimaev, Merab Dvalishvili, Alex Pereira, or others—2,555 fans voted, with Makhachev emerging as the clear favorite.

Makhachev received just over 53% of the vote, aligning with the official UFC rankings. In comparison, only 14.46% believed Topria should have retained the title following UFC 322. Jon Jones followed closely with 11.35%, while the remaining contenders received less than 6% each.

Fans are now invited to participate in the latest Bloody Elbow poll, which centers on the potential UFC return of Conor McGregor, who aims to fight at a promotional event at the White House after a five-year hiatus. McGregor has reportedly begun rigorous training, but opinions remain divided on whether he will indeed make his comeback at this high-profile event. Other notable fighters like Jon Jones, Ilia Topuria, Alex Pereira, and Kayla Harrison have also expressed interest in participating in the June 14 event, which Dana White promises will be UFC’s most spectacular event ever.

McGregor’s potential return at a landmark event could reignite mainstream interest and elevate the sport’s profile on a global stage.
