25-year-old plans to leave West Ham in January

West Ham United goalkeeper Mads Hermansen is reportedly set to leave the club in the January transfer window after a difficult start to life at the London Stadium.

The 25-year-old only recently joined the Hammers, having moved from Leicester City in the summer following the Foxes’ relegation from the Premier League.

Hermansen enjoyed a good spell at Leicester, but struggled at West Ham, making only four appearances in total and failing to establish himself as the club’s number one.

West Ham currently clearly prefer Alphonse Areola as their first choice in goal, leading to reports that Hermansen is set to leave the east London club early.

According to reports in Italy, Hermansen is considering a move in January and could find a suitor in Serie A.

Lazio are keen to sign Hermansen, as are Fiorentina, so two early options appear to have emerged for the Danish shot-stopper.

However, it will be interesting to see if West Ham are ready to give Hermansen the green light to leave, although it is likely that they could at least retain him as Arreola’s backup.

WHUFC also have veteran Polish goalkeeper Łukasz Fabianski as an option to come on if needed, but he is currently 40 years old and may not be the best option if he is needed for an extended period of time.

Still, it’s clear things haven’t worked out for Hermansen at West Ham, and we now seem to be heading towards an inevitable departure in the not-too-distant future.
