Oscar Fisker Morgard Climbs Higher in Kraken Organization’s Leadership Ladder

On Thursday, Oscar Fisker Molgaard was called up to the NHL after playing only 14 games with the Coachella Valley Firebirds in the AHL. He will not only join a major league team but also make his NHL debut that very night when the Seattle Kraken face off against the Chicago Blackhawks.

“When I got the call yesterday, I was filled with excitement and happiness,” Fisker-Molgaard shared after the morning skate on Thursday. “Ron mentioned I’ve been working hard and that I needed to catch a flight soon. I’m a bit overwhelmed but really glad to be here.”

The 20-year-old saw limited action during his NHL debut, skating just under 7 minutes, yet he managed to leave his mark by assisting on the Kraken’s opening goal, marking his first NHL point. The play involved Fisker-Molgaard hustling for a loose puck during a board battle, moving to the front of the net, and deflecting the puck to Ty Carty for the assist.

Though it might have been unexpected for Molgaard to be the first player from the 2023 draft class to appear in an NHL game, he has consistently impressed the Kraken organization since arriving in North America this summer. His strong showings at Rookie Camp and Rookie Showcase, where his persistent effort drove momentum, set him apart. Selected 52nd overall in the 2023 NHL Draft, he made it to the final roster for training camp after playing in five preseason games.

Molgaard started his AHL career on a high note, scoring 3 goals and totaling 10 points in 14 games, ranking fourth in points. The Kraken organization has openly stated their confidence in their young talent, aiming to showcase their potential. Players like Barkley Catton, Jani Nyman, and Ryan Winterton have already moved up to NHL teams, and now Fisker Molgaard appears to be fast-tracking his development.
