BOLOGNA, Italy — Spain advanced to the Davis Cup final on Saturday thanks to the doubles pairing of Marcel Granollers and Pedro Martinez, defeating Germany’s Tim Puetz and Kevin Krawietz 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 in the semifinals.

After Pablo Carreno Busta’s goal gave Spain a winning start against Jan-Lennard Struff, Alexander Zverev kept the German team’s hopes alive with a 7-6 (2), 7-6 (5) win over Jaume Munar. Carreno Busta saved five consecutive set points in the tiebreak to defeat the German veteran 6-4, 7-6 (6).

However, Granolles and Martinez shocked Pütz and Krawietz with only their second loss in Davis Cup.

The Spanish team, without number one Carlos Alcaraz due to injury, advanced to the finals for the first time in six years.

Spain will face back-to-back champions Italy, who defeated Belgium on Friday.
