It has been a shaky start to the season for Manchester United, but there are signs that it will be a good season for Ruben Amorim’s side. However, they will need to make one or two signings to give themselves the best chance of making a good run in the Premier League table.

The area that needs to be addressed is the midfield, where the likes of Manuel Ugarte and Coby Mainu are struggling. Manchester United want another option to compete alongside Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes and have narrowed their targets down to two.

Speaking to United Stand (via TEAMtalk), Ben Jacobs revealed that Man United intend to sign either Conor Gallagher or Joao Gomez.

“They like Joao Gomez. There are probably only two definitive targets on Manchester United’s list that they could or could get in January. The first is obviously Conor Gallagher. And then there’s Joao Gomez, but I don’t want to say he’s available – and I want to be clear here – but what I’m saying is that suitors might be encouraged to look at the league table in January and try their luck.”

Should Manchester United choose Gallagher or Gomez?

Given that Gallagher hasn’t featured much at Atletico Madrid, he would certainly be an available option in January – something he admitted in a recent interview. Man United could bring him to Old Trafford on an initial loan, but that would make more sense from a financial perspective.

Wolves, on the other hand, are unlikely to be willing to sell Gomez given his vital importance to their chances of avoiding relegation from the Premier League at the end of the season. If Man United were to sign him, it would require an exorbitant amount of money.
