Tyler Adams Steps Back from U.S. National Soccer Team Roster

Midfielder Tyler Adams has withdrawn from the U.S. national soccer team ahead of training camp starting Monday, following a frightening head-on collision with a teammate during a Premier League match.

Adams was set to join the national squad for their final training session of the year in Philadelphia, but his injury requires him to stay in England for further assessment and recovery.

Inquiries about Adams’ condition were directed to his club, AFC Bournemouth, but they have not yet responded.

Columbus Crew’s Sean Zawadzki, another U.S. reserve, also missed Saturday’s MLS playoff match against Cincinnati due to a knee injury.

Timmy Tillman of Los Angeles FC has been called up to replace Adams for upcoming friendlies against Paraguay in Chester, Pennsylvania, this Saturday and Uruguay in Tampa on November 18th.

Adams, who has been a key player during the last two World Cups, will miss the training camp for the second consecutive year; last month, he opted to stay home to support his pregnant wife.

During the match on Sunday, Adams collided with teammate Adam Smith early on in England’s 4-0 defeat to Aston Villa, leading to immediate medical attention for the injured player. While Smith suffered a concussion and could not continue, Adams managed to play through the remainder of the match.

Adams joins several major players absent from U.S. camp for various reasons, including Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie, Chris Richards, Tim Weah, and Antonee Robinson.

Following this camp, the national team will not gather again until late March, marking coach Mauricio Pochettino’s final opportunity to evaluate players before selecting a 26-man World Cup roster in late May.

As soccer fans, this news is significant as it highlights the challenges the U.S. men’s national team faces with key players unavailable before crucial friendlies. Adams’ absence, especially with his World Cup experience, could impact team cohesion and preparation as they aim for success on the international stage.
