Connor Girish Cleared to Race in NASCAR Xfinity Series at Daytona Just Weeks After Collarbone Break

Connor Girish is set to race in Friday night’s NASCAR Xfinity Series event at Daytona, just under two weeks after falling from the roof of his car and breaking his collarbone. The incident occurred on August 9 when Girish was celebrating his win at Watkins Glen by climbing onto his car in Victory Lane, but he slipped and fell head-first to the ground, requiring immediate medical attention and transport by stretcher.

JR Motorsports announced on Friday that Girish has been medically cleared to compete. He intends to qualify the car himself and has former Xfinity driver and current analyst Parker Kligerman on standby in case he cannot race. A few days after the accident, Girish underwent surgery on his left collarbone and humorously remarked that he received an “anti-fall” bracelet at the hospital. The Xfinity Series took a break last weekend.

At 19 years old, Girish leads the Xfinity points with six wins in 22 races, holding a seven-point lead over teammate Justin Allgaier despite participating in one fewer race. Earlier in the season, Girish suffered a back injury from a head-on collision at Talladega, which caused him to miss the subsequent race at Texas. Because of the potential risks involved, having Kligerman ready to step in on Friday night seems like a prudent precaution.

Furthermore, Girish is expected to be named a full-time driver in the NASCAR Cup Series soon. Although he is contracted with Trackhouse Racing, the team has yet to announce a third driver for 2026 following Daniel Suarez’s departure at the season’s end.

Fan Take: This comeback highlights Connor Girish’s resilience and dedication, which is inspiring to NASCAR fans eager to see young talent rise despite setbacks. His potential move to the Cup Series could inject fresh energy into the sport and signal the arrival of a future star.
