Two young Spanish riders, Fermin Aldeguer and Raul Fernández, marked the start of the 2025 MotoGP season by claiming the first race victories. Meanwhile, fellow Spaniard Pedro Acosta is entering his third year aiming to secure his first premier class win.

Acosta, riding for Red Bull KTM, acknowledged that early frustrations impacted his initial season results. However, after restructuring his team, he has become a steady presence on the podium since the race at Brno. Reflecting on other riders who achieved their first wins ahead of him, Acosta— a former Moto3 and Moto2 world champion— said, “That’s the reality. In the end, I want to win too. I believe I’m performing at my best, avoiding any foolish mistakes, staying focused, and consistently finishing in the top five.”

He added, “We’re building consistency, but in the garage, we recognize there is still something missing.” Aldeguer, riding for Gresini Ducati, celebrated his maiden MotoGP victory ahead of Acosta at Mandalica, while Fernandes of Trackhouse Aprilia triumphed on the Phillip Island podium.

Acosta finished second in races held in Hungary, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Notably, he was closest to winning during the penultimate Portimão sprint race, narrowly missing out to Alex Marquez by a margin of just 0.120 seconds.

“We need a performance boost,” Acosta admitted. “We know Ducati still leads, Aprilia is currently second, and Honda is working hard on a comeback. Now, KTM has to push harder. We haven’t lost much ground, but it’s time to do whatever it takes to be fast.”

He also reflected on his personal growth and experience: “I have more experience than ever before, and this journey is helping me become a better person.” Acosta’s strong performance in the latter half of the season saw him climb from 13th place after COTA to tie for fourth in the riders’ championship, marking the best finish in KTM’s history.

He wrapped up his 2025 season testing with KTM at Valencia, finishing in a close fifth place, just 0.208 seconds shy of the top spot.

Fan Take: This breakthrough season showcases a new wave of young talent shaking up MotoGP, signaling intense competition and excitement ahead for racing fans. Acosta’s determination and KTM’s rising performance hint at an evolving championship landscape that could bring fresh rivalries and unforgettable races.
