Avalanche Rise to Top Contender for President’s Trophy Glory

The Colorado Avalanche have made a strong impact early in the 2025-26 NHL season, positioning themselves as the frontrunner for the President’s Trophy. With an outstanding 16-1-5 record in 22 games and favorable odds of -149 at BetMGM, the Avalanche exhibit all the qualities of a team poised for regular-season success, drawing parallels to the dominant 2023 Boston Bruins team that finished 65-12-5.

Colorado’s offense is firing on all cylinders, spearheaded by Nathan MacKinnon, the league’s premier star, who has amassed 37 points (17 goals, 20 assists). Defenseman Kale Makar leads all defenders in scoring with 29 points, while Martin Necas has stepped up admirably in place of Mikko Rantanen, tallying 28 points. Artturi Lehkonen appears to be regaining his form with 19 points, recalling his pivotal role in the Avalanche’s 2021 Stanley Cup victory.

Depth has also been a vital factor in their strong start. Contributions from Viktor Olafsson and Brock Nelson have been timely, and Valeri Nichushkin leads with 12 points over 17 games. Defensively, Colorado stands out with the best record in the NHL this season, averaging four goals scored per game while conceding only 2.18 goals against.

The goaltending duo has been exceptional as well. Scott Wedgwood boasts a 13-1-2 record, sporting a 2.09 goals-against average and a .918 save percentage, while backup Mackenzie Blackwood remains unbeaten in four games with a 2.47 GAA and a .911 save rate.

The Avalanche’s upcoming schedule looks favorable, featuring 11 games against lower-ranked teams such as the Calgary Flames, Nashville Predators, St. Louis Blues, and Vancouver Canucks. Boasting an elite offense, robust defense, and a manageable schedule ahead, Colorado has clearly emerged as the team to beat. With odds at -149, bettors might want to act fast to capitalize on what could be a historic regular season. Continuing their hot streak could also make their +400 Stanley Cup odds incredibly enticing.

Fan Take: The Avalanche’s early dominance is exciting for hockey fans eager to witness a team that blends star power with depth and skill. If they maintain this momentum, it could signal a thrilling season and elevate the competitive standard in the NHL, making every game must-watch action.
