  • Why Isak should start against PSV
  • Slott needs to unleash talent like Liverpool’s Semenyo
        • Mac Allister upgrade: Liverpool launch £140m bid for superstar

Another week, another dollar for Liverpool. Next up is the Champions League game against PSV Eindhoven at Anfield, and Arne Slott knows he has to win this game.

Of course that goes without saying, but the fact is that Liverpool have lost eight of their last 11 games in all competitions, and two of their last three at Anfield.

A major response will be needed, but strangely enough, it feels like there is a good chance this will happen against the Dutch side. However, whether that can be sustained is another matter and Slott will need to find and instill a formula that carries over into the Premier League, where West Ham United are in London on Sunday.

The Reds need to overcome their current slump and may need to start Alexander Isak again.

Why Isak should start against PSV

Hugo Ekitike, who is waiting on the wing, has been Liverpool’s most talented forward this season, but he may be understandably disappointed to be left on the bench here again, especially after the team’s and Isak’s surprisingly poor performance against Nottingham Forest at the weekend.

The Swedish striker, who joined Liverpool from Newcastle United for a British record £125 million on transfer deadline day this summer, is yet to score in the Premier League, with his only goal coming against Southampton in the Carabao Cup.

The 26-year-old is one of the best strikers in the world and a huge player who has proven himself in England. But so far no solution has been reached, and the slots must find some answers quickly.

Liverpool cannot allow this rut to become more permanent. Already, there is growing talk about the future of the boss, who will need to prove that he can reassemble the team to overcome a number of problems.

Isak’s success with free goals will be essential to righting the mistakes of recent months.

If Isak is given another chance to improve his fitness levels under the European lights on Wednesday, Slott should also consider giving another rarely seen star an opening role.

Slott needs to unleash talent like Liverpool’s Semenyo

Kodi Gakpo has played a lot of time on the left wing this season, but there is a sense that Liverpool need a contrasting profile. People like Luis Diaz.

However, with Dias sold to Bayern Munich, rumors have increased regarding Liverpool’s interest in Antoine Semenho, who has been in good form for Bournemouth this season.

Semenyo, 25, has scored six goals and provided three assists in 11 Premier League games this season and has been hailed as a “world class” forward by teammate Justin Kluivert.

He will be available in January and his £65m release clause will be activated, but it remains to be seen whether Liverpool should sign a Ghanaian of Rio Ngmoha’s caliber.

Ngmoha, 17, made his intentions clear when he scored a last-minute winning goal against Newcastle in August, and also announced it earlier this season, but Slott has since proved reluctant to give him any minutes on the biggest stage.

This is questionable given that Liverpool refused to finance Dias’ direct successor to make way for the England Under-19 star, who has played a total of 42 minutes in five cameos in the Premier League this season.

Liverpool now need a win against PSV, but Ngumoha could demonstrate an important confidence by starting in the Champions League, as his speed, ability and desire to be direct could make him perfect for Isak. Take a look at the bond the Swede has forged with Anthony Gordon on Tyneside over the past few years.

Described as a “generational talent” by journalist Kevin Fernandes, Ngumoha was given 12 minutes off the bench at the weekend, and although he failed to turn the tide against Tricky Trees, he certainly did more than Gakpo, with SofaScore recording him as completing all three of his dribble attempts and winning three duels.

This could be a move that not only benefits Isak and Ngumoha but also rekindles belief in Slot’s vision. Liverpool fans are passionate and the rise of their homegrown hero could reflect the kind of shining light that Slott needs to prove he has what it takes to take the club forward in the long term.

After all, Ngumoha has already proven his ability to succeed in the Premier League this season, with the win at St James’ Park cementing his place as one of the youngest goalscorers in the competition’s history.

He may be an immature and unpolished prospect, but Ngmoha is the real deal, and while we’re not recommending he start every game, it might be worth forcing some rotation here ahead of Sunday’s must-win Premier League game against West Ham.

He will also help stabilize Isak, providing a presence to jump forward and stretch the line, contributing to the record-breaking striker’s high-speed running ability and line-breaking style of play.

Rumors of Liverpool’s interest in Semenyo will only intensify as the winter transfer window approaches.

However, Liverpool already had incredible talent, and FSG and Hughes chose not to sign a direct replacement for Dias due to that talent. Now is the time to let him go.
