  • Tottenham and Arsenal to watch in Sam Agehowa transfer race
  • Porto’s demands on Sam Agehowa

As first reported in my Daily Briefing exclusive, Tottenham are understood to be leading the transfer race for Porto’s talented young striker Sam Agehowa.

The 21-year-old has been prolific for Porto, finding the back of the net 36 times in a total of 60 games, and previously attracted attention during his loan spell at Alaves from Atletico Madrid.

Chelsea tried to sign Agehowa before joining Porto and will continue to monitor his situation.

Sources also mentioned Newcastle to me, but it feels like their interest has waned after signing both Nick Woltemaid and Ioan Wissa this summer.

According to my sources, the two main teams to keep an eye on Agehowa right now could be Tottenham and Arsenal.

Spurs have struggled so far this season, with recent signings like Matthijs Tell and Randal Kolo Muani disappointing and Dominic Solanke suffering injury problems, so their attack doesn’t look dangerous.

But Arsenal are also there, and as recently reported, both Selous Guirassy and Jean-Philippe Mateta are also being looked at as they consider replacements for the injury-prone Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz.

Porto’s demands on Sam Agehowa

One source said Porto were “firm” about a €100m release fee for Agehowa, while another suggested they could be flexible and accept around €90m.

It’s a bit early to know for sure how this will turn out, but it certainly makes sense that if the Spain international performs this well at such a young age, he’s unlikely to be snapped up cheaply.

Agehowa clearly has a big future in this game and could be a great long-term addition to help Tottenham level up. At the same time, it gave Arsenal’s attack a different kind of profile.
