Shane Pinto Nets Twice, Leading Senators to Uncommon Victory Over Las Vegas

The Ottawa Senators, often struggling against the Vegas Golden Knights, managed a surprising 4-3 victory on Wednesday night despite entering the game with a dismal 1-12-1 record against them. Shane Pinto shined in Las Vegas, scoring a goal and netting the sole shootout winner. Jake Sanderson was a key player, contributing a goal and two assists, while Claude Giroux and Tim Stutzle each had two assists. Linus Ullmark made an impressive 32 saves, including crucial ones in the third period and the shootout.

The Senators quickly took the lead just 51 seconds into the game when Pinto’s wrist shot found its way past Vegas goalie Akira Schmidt, even though it was a less-than-perfect shot. Pinto’s goal, his 11th of the season, tied him with Tim Stutzle for the club lead. Sanderson extended the lead on a power play after a pass from Giroux, and Tim Stutzle added another goal just before the first period ended, giving Ottawa a 3-1 advantage.

Vegas fought back in the second period with Jack Eichel scoring to bring the score to 3-2. The third period saw former Senator Mark Stone tie the game with a somewhat lucky power-play goal, assisted by a controversial high-sticking penalty call. Despite dominating the third period in shots, Vegas couldn’t secure a win in regulation, and Ivan Barbashev missed a golden chance in overtime by hitting the post.

Ultimately, Shane Pinto sealed the win for Ottawa in the shootout, improving the Senators’ season record to 12-7-4. The team now prepares for their next game against St. Louis, with star player Brady Tkachuk set to return.
