Ross Brawn Opens Up on Lewis Hamilton’s Challenges at Ferrari

Ross Brawn has shared his thoughts on Lewis Hamilton’s ongoing difficulties with Ferrari. As the esteemed former technical director of Ferrari, Brawn was instrumental in the team’s dominance in the early 2000s alongside Michael Schumacher.

Hamilton, a fellow seven-time world champion, experienced a tough first season after making the high-profile switch from Mercedes to Ferrari last winter. Ferrari is currently struggling, yet to secure a win in 2025, and Hamilton has not yet reached the podium in a Grand Prix wearing the red. Despite this, he has clearly outperformed his teammate Charles Leclerc.

Brawn, who played a key role in convincing Hamilton to join Mercedes from McLaren back in 2012, expressed confidence that the 40-year-old driver can improve his performance and grow with Ferrari. He told F1.com, “Lewis is a pretty decisive character and has shown resilience in the past so there’s no reason not to get a result,” adding, “I just hope that Ferrari responds correctly to the new rules.”

Hamilton’s struggles were highlighted at the Las Vegas Grand Prix, where he qualified last on pure pace for the first time in his 17-year Formula 1 career, though he managed to recover to tenth place on the track, which later improved to eighth after two McLaren drivers were disqualified. This race was one of the many challenging moments for Hamilton this year, and he openly expressed disappointment in his performance during a post-race interview.

Describing the 2025 season as his “worst” in F1, Hamilton admitted to Sky Sports F1 that he feels “terrible” and added, “No matter how hard we try, things are only going to get worse.” He also cryptically mentioned to BBC Radio that he is “not looking forward to next season.”

Nevertheless, Hamilton has shown some positive development with Ferrari since the mid-season break and achieved Ferrari’s only win of the year by winning the sprint race at the Chinese Grand Prix in April.

Fan Take: This update on Hamilton’s tough season at Ferrari is significant for racing enthusiasts because it highlights the unpredictable nature of F1, even for the sport’s greatest champions. How Hamilton adapts and Ferrari’s response to changing regulations could shape the competitive landscape and excitement for upcoming seasons.
