Indiana Fever’s Lexi Hull Sent a Powerful Offseason Message from the WNBA

By the conclusion of the Indiana Fever’s 2025 season, Lexi Hull had emerged as one of the few dependable stars left on the court. The team faced a tough year riddled with injuries, losing at least five key players, including Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham, to season-ending setbacks. Despite these challenges, Hull stood out as a consistent and reliable player. In her fourth year with the Fever, the 6-foot-1 guard posted averages of 7.2 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.2 steals, and 1.3 three-pointers per game, shooting 36.7% from beyond the arc.

Widely regarded as one of the top defenders for the Fever, Hull’s defensive prowess even caught the attention of the WNBA. Drafted sixth overall by Indiana in 2022, Hull has grown into a vital contributor, especially under head coach Stephanie White, starting 30 of 44 games in 2025 and achieving a career-high average of 27 minutes on the floor each game. The WNBA praised her on social media, highlighting her “elite vision, effort, and defense” during the playoffs, where she was known for locking down the opposition’s best players.

Despite a talent-shortened roster, the Fever managed to finish sixth in the league with a 24-20 record. They defeated the third-seeded Atlanta Dream in the first playoff round and pushed the Las Vegas Aces to a decisive fifth game in the semifinals before falling to the eventual champions. Hull’s defensive contributions were critical to this playoff run.

With her contract now expired, Hull will become a free agent on February 1st. The Fever will need to negotiate a new deal if they wish to retain this defensive standout.

Fan Take: Lexi Hull’s emergence as a premier defender is a beacon of hope for the Fever amidst a season plagued by injuries. For WNBA fans, retaining Hull could mean sustaining the team’s competitive edge and continuing to showcase the high-level defensive skill that elevates the sport.
