Alonso: Madrid’s Locker Room Remains ‘Strong’ Amid Rift Rumors

Xabi Alonso has dismissed “speculation” about tensions within the Real Madrid camp, asserting that the team is “solid” following their recent victory. Madrid triumphed 4-3 over Olympiakos in the Champions League, breaking a three-match winless streak that had led to scrutiny of Alonso’s relationship with senior players.

Despite the challenges, Real Madrid occupies first place in La Liga as they prepare to face Girona this weekend. Alonso expressed optimism at a press conference, saying, “I always believe our team is united, and we share a common goal: to finish the season with a chance to win everything. Through ups and downs, we remain together, and our internal unity is strong despite rumors.”

Madrid began the season well, but a loss to Liverpool and draws against Rayo Vallecano and Elche in November fueled speculation about internal issues. Following the Olympiakos win, star Kylian Mbappé stated that players must “protect” Alonso, while Vinicius Junior showed support with a congratulatory hug on the pitch.

Alonso noted the team’s progress and identified areas for improvement, particularly defensively. He emphasized the need for better possession and consistency as the team develops. He also confirmed that centre-backs Antonio Rudiger and Eder Militão are likely to return against Girona, while Raul Asensio’s availability remains uncertain. Alonso praised Jude Bellingham for his ambition and acknowledged Trent Alexander-Arnold’s adjustment period in his first year with the team.

Fan Take: This news is significant for soccer fans as it highlights the internal dynamics of one of the sport’s biggest clubs during a challenging season. A united Real Madrid could not only drive their success in domestic competitions but also impact their performance in Europe, potentially shaping the landscape of club football.
