Brandon Bussi Champions the Benefits of Taking on More Workloads

Carolina Hurricanes goalie Brandon Bussi is pushing for more playing time after securing his sixth win in seven NHL starts. At 27, Bussi has patiently awaited his chance in the league and is now capitalizing on the opportunity.

Although his .899 save percentage in seven games might not stand out initially, six of those starts were above .890, and four exceeded .910. Among the Hurricanes’ three goaltenders, Bussi leads with an above-expected 2.7 goals saved and boasts a high-danger save percentage of .900, placing him in the top 1% of NHL goalies this season.

With Pyotr Kochetkov sidelined by injuries and Frederik Andersen facing challenges, it makes sense for Bussi to receive more ice time. Hurricanes coach Rod Brind’Amour praised Bussi for stepping up in tough situations, highlighting his key saves and consistent wins.

Though Bussi’s NHL starts have been intermittent, he’s familiar with a demanding workload from his four seasons in the AHL, where he appeared in 111 games with a .915 save percentage. Initially not well-known when the Hurricanes picked him up on waivers, Bussi has since made a strong impression on teammates and coaches alike.

“Hurricanes players acknowledge his talent and character, with Seth Jarvis praising him as a great teammate,” Brind’Amour commented, emphasizing Bussi’s strong mindset and effectiveness in goal. Bussi even unveiled a new custom mask that celebrates autism awareness, showing his personal and community connection.

For fans staying updated on the Hurricanes, Bussi’s emergence as a reliable starter is a promising development. His readiness and performance could bring much-needed stability to the goaltender position moving forward.
