Defending Premier League champions Liverpool have been in turmoil since the end of September. Arne Slott’s side have lost nine of their last 12 games in all competitions, with the combined scoreline of their last three defeats being 10-1 (4-1 against PSV and 3-0 each against Nottingham Forest and Man City).
At this rate, Liverpool have fallen to 13th place in the Premier League standings. This has also sparked intense speculation about Slott’s future, with Anfield officials said to be already preparing a replacement.
Pressure grows on Arne Slot as player accusations continue
According to Football Insider, manager Pete O’Rourke has accused Liverpool’s players of showing a lack of motivation in recent weeks.
“After the loss to PSV, Slott said he still feels he has the backing of the Liverpool structure, but he is definitely fighting for his job. He has had Liverpool’s worst run in 71 years, with three consecutive heavy defeats by three or more goals.”
“It’s a really worrying time for Liverpool, especially for Arne Slott. You’ve got to question the heart and the aspirations of the team right now too. There seems to be a lack of fight between the players, and it’s hard to see. The confidence seems to be evaporating from the team and it seems to be seeping into the supporters too, so they’re losing a little bit of faith in Slott and the players.”
Should Liverpool sack Arne Slott before it’s too late?
Despite their frightening run of form, Liverpool are just four points out of the Premier League’s top four with a game in hand (Sunday’s game against West Ham). They are still in a good position, but if they don’t improve in the coming weeks it wouldn’t be surprising to see a new manager brought in to save the season.
