Manji Taut has emerged as a top contender for the JCB Triumph Hurdle, supported by several bookmakers after being entered fourth by trainer Gordon Elliott at Fairyhouse. The three-year-old, who claimed victory in his only French race, made a strong Irish debut at Down Royal and advanced to Grade 3 competition in the BAR 1 Betting Juvenile Hurdle held in County Meath.

While French newcomer Narciso Hass, bred by Willie Mullins, was the slight favorite at 5-4 odds, Manji Taut, favored at 11-8 with Jack Kennedy, took the lead approaching the final hurdle and ultimately held off Narciso Hass by nearly three lengths. Paddy Power has now shortened Manji Taut’s odds from 16-1 to 8-1 to win the Triumph Hurdle at the forthcoming Cheltenham Festival in March.

Elliott expressed satisfaction with the horse’s recent performance, noting that she initially struggled but settled well during the race, showing promising improvement. He highlighted the horse’s strong finish from the back of the field, suggesting Leopardstown as the next target.

Elliott also celebrated several other victories at Fairyhouse, including wins in the Royal Bond Novices Hurdle with Cocktail Brut, the Drinmore Novice Chase with Romeo Coolio, and the Hutton’s Grace Hurdle with Teaupoo, securing his third Grade 1 title and tying a record.

Trainer Clentrahaus commented on the day’s success, acknowledging the ups and downs of racing performance and expressing enthusiasm about competing at Fairyhouse, a local course rich with support from friends and Meath GAA fans.

In other races, Ian Donoghue’s Valreal won the BAR 1 Betting Ladies Handicap Chase, while Robert Tyner and Mark Walsh triumphed with 3-1 favorite Better Times Ahead in the BAR 1 Betting Porterstown Handicap Chase. Willie Mullins and Paul Townend claimed victory in the BAR 1 Casino Handicap Hurdle with Giro, whose stablemate Ethical Diamond had previously won the Breeders’ Cup Turf.

Mullins reflected on the family spirit of racing, noting their presence from international events like Del Mar and Melbourne, and emphasizing the social and communal aspects that make racing special. The day’s final race saw Young Rebel, trained by Mags Mullins, win the BAR 1 Casino (Pro/Am) INH flat race under 7lb claimer Anna McGuinness.

Fan Take: This update highlights the rising stars and strong performances shaping the future of jump racing, exciting fans with potential champions like Manji Taut. With top trainers and horses showcasing their talent at Fairyhouse, the sport’s competitive spirit and community appeal remain as vibrant as ever, promising thrilling races ahead.
