During the title celebrations on Saturday, the Copa Libertadores trophy won by Flamengo suffered damage.

Flamengo triumphed over Palmeiras with a 1-0 victory in the final held in Lima, Peru, marking the first time a Brazilian club has won the distinguished trophy four times.

On Sunday afternoon, the Flamengo players and staff paraded through the streets of Rio de Janeiro, where around 500,000 fans participated in the festivities.

As they celebrated, the players lifted the trophy, but photos showed that the trophy’s top, featuring a figurine of a soccer player poised to kick, was apparently secured with masking tape.

The figurine had been damaged previously.

Flamengo aims to wrap up the Brazilian league title when they meet Ceará at Rio’s Maracana Stadium on Wednesday.

With just two matches remaining, they are currently five points behind the leaders, Palmeiras.

Fan Take: This news is significant for soccer fans as it showcases Flamengo’s dominance in South American football, setting the stage for future rivalries. The trophy’s damage amid celebrations also highlights the passion and intensity surrounding the sport, reminding fans how much these victories mean to their clubs and communities.
