Newcastle could make several new signings in the January transfer window, with Joe Willock and Lewis Miley reportedly set to leave the club. But in the latter case, he will not go anywhere.

Miley has struggled to break into Newcastle’s midfield this season, but he got his chance on Saturday. He provided the assist for Malik Thiau’s opening goal against Everton and found the back of the net himself minutes later, cementing Eddie Howe’s faith in the teenager.

Crystal Palace have been linked with Miley in the past, but according to Mick Brown (via Football Insider) Newcastle will not listen to offers for the young midfielder.

“Myley has shown he has a role to play for Newcastle. They watch him every day and know him inside and out, how far they think he can go in his career and whether he is the player they want him to be.”

“If you take Joelinton, Bruno and Tonali, their midfield is as stable as anyone in the league. The question behind that is, if any of those three are absent for whatever reason, who can come in and step up? Miley has always been useful for that purpose and for rotation in Europe. After his performance against Everton, he has now really made a case for more regular football and shown that he can be an important part of this team.”

“For a while there were suggestions that there was no place for him long-term, but I think those concerns have now been dispelled. Given his role at the moment and the level they think he could reach one day, there’s no way Newcastle would let him go.”

What role will Lewis Miley play in the future?

Newcastle have been linked with the possibility of re-signing Elliott Anderson from Nottingham Forest in recent months. That deal has become increasingly unlikely in recent weeks, with a reported asking price of £100m, but given Miley is more than capable of reaching the same level, Howe’s side may not need the England international anyway.
