One of the greatest female boxers in history has shared her thoughts on the possibility of a crossover fight. The martial arts world is no stranger to unconventional matchups nowadays. Recently, reports surfaced on December 1st that Ronda Rousey, who hasn’t competed in the UFC since 2016, might be in discussions to face Katie Taylor. Both athletes are iconic in their own sports, and such a bout would undoubtedly attract massive attention. However, concerns linger over whether Rousey’s return is wise given her past health issues, and there’s also debate about the potential impact on Taylor, the legendary boxer facing her in the ring.

Earlier this year, the trilogy showdown between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano set a record as the most-watched women’s professional sporting event of 2025. At 39 years old, Taylor has already achieved remarkable milestones, so many wonder what she stands to gain by fighting Rousey. Taylor recently opened up in an interview, admitting she only learned about the proposed fight from media reports, but expressed genuine interest. “It’s an interesting fight, isn’t it? This is an intriguing crossover fight that could capture fans’ imaginations and what boxing needs,” she said, noting that if fans want to see it, she’d be happy to compete against Ronda.

When first asked about the fight, Taylor said he knew nothing about it and was as surprised as fans when the news broke. He praised Rousey as an iconic figure with a strong mentality, making the matchup especially compelling. “This is the first time I heard of this fight too. I saw the headlines and thought, ‘Okay, I’ll take this fight,'” Taylor remarked.

In September, the WBC granted Katie Taylor “inactive champion” status due to her time away from the sport, fueling speculation about her future. Despite her impressive career, Taylor revealed in an interview with Matchroom Boxing that she still has one major goal to accomplish before retiring — competing at Croke Park, Ireland’s most iconic stadium. “It’s been a dream of mine to fight there. Though it’s not set yet, I’m hopeful I’ll get that chance,” she said, considering it the perfect way to cap off her career.

Fan Take: This potential crossover between Ronda Rousey and Katie Taylor excites fighting fans because it bridges two iconic combat sports worlds, promising a unique spectacle. If it happens, it could open doors for more crossover fights, boosting interest and viewership across both MMA and boxing.
