Jonbon is aiming for a third consecutive win in Saturday’s Betfair Tingle Creek Chase. The horse, favored by trainer Nicky Henderson, is also entered in Sunday’s Peterborough Chase at Huntingdon. However, JP McManus’ racing manager, Frank Berry, has confirmed that their plans to race at Sandown remain unchanged for now.
Jonbon has an impressive record at Esher, winning five out of six races there. His only loss was in last season’s Celebration Chase to Ile Etite Temps, trained by Willie Mullins, whom he is set to face again this weekend. He has previously competed at Cheltenham and Aintree.
Though Jonbon had a tough defeat in his comeback race, the Schroer Chase, against Lough de Sud—another contender for Sandown—he is expected to perform better as they head towards Cheltenham. Berry stated, “He’s definitely running at Tingle Creek, and Nicky is very pleased with him.” He added that despite not racing to his strengths last time, Jonbon lost respectably and should be in great form, especially since Nicky’s other horse showed strong form.
Berry also noted that the Tingle Creek race suits Jonbon well and expressed hope that Baba (another competitor) won’t be too challenging. Jonbon is set to arrive in excellent condition for the race.
Fan Take: This update is thrilling for horse racing enthusiasts as Jonbon’s continued strong performances could shake up major upcoming races. His potential duel with rivals like Ile Etite Temps adds excitement and depth to the season, promising memorable moments for fans and significantly impacting the sport’s competitive landscape.
