  • Koby Mainu is struggling for Man United
  • Mainu’s career could be revived with a loan move

According to The Athletic, Manchester United midfielder Koby Mainu could leave in the January transfer window, but only on loan.

Several clubs have already expressed an interest in signing him and an agreement could be reached that would allow him to leave the club in January, as the player aims to move away from Old Trafford in order to get more playing time.

Minoo’s situation at Old Trafford is becoming increasingly tense. The 20-year-old England international, once seen as one of United’s most promising midfield players, is now struggling for minutes under manager Ruben Amorim.

He has only featured sporadically this season and has barely registered a start in the Premier League, despite some decent performances in previous seasons.

Frustrated by his limited playing time, Mainu has reportedly decided to seek temporary pasture elsewhere in order to rebuild his momentum and, importantly, improve his chances of returning to the England squad for the 2026 World Cup.

Clubs such as Napoli and West Ham United have been linked with a January loan move for Maynou, who would be guaranteed regular game appearances.

Italian side Napoli in particular are reportedly serious, saying they are willing to pay his wages and see him as a useful addition amid injury problems in midfield.

Mainu is keen to be loaned, but United’s stance remains cautious. This summer, he requested to leave the club in order to play regularly, but although his request was denied, it appears that the club is still reluctant to allow him to leave permanently.

A loan deal could be a vital lifeline for Mainu. Consistent game time is essential if the 20-year-old is to aim for England’s senior ranks.

Six months at a club where he is guaranteed a starting role could reignite his career momentum.

Conversely, a successful loan spell could boost his stock, giving United more flexibility in the summer to bring him back or negotiate a permanent departure on better terms.

While it may be risky to send a promising raw talent out on loan, it is illogical to keep an unsatisfactory squad member, given that the player deserves more playing time.
