Did Paddy Pimblett Have the Smoothest Ride to the Title? UFC Fighters Who Enjoyed More ‘Dana White Privilege’

Paddy Pimblett’s upcoming fight has stirred quite a bit of debate. The lightweight contender is set for the biggest bout of his career at UFC 324 in January, where he’ll get his first chance to fight for a UFC title. Initially, Pimblett was campaigning for an undisputed title shot, but with Ilya Topuria stepping away from the UFC for a while, Pimblett will now compete for the interim belt instead. He is set to headline UFC 324 against former interim champion Justin Gaethje.

Since the announcement, UFC president Dana White and the promotion have faced criticism, with many arguing that Pimblett hasn’t done enough to earn his shot compared to fighters like Arman Tsarukyan. Some voices even claim Pimblett’s road to a title shot is one of the easiest in UFC history. However, lightweight contender Beneil Dariush offered a different perspective, saying Michael Chandler, not Pimblett, had the easiest path to a title shot. Dariush pointed out that Chandler fought only two main opponents before getting a title shot and said Chandler’s lineup was simpler than Pimblett’s.

Pimblett recently improved his perfect UFC record to 7-0 by defeating Chandler at UFC 314. Meanwhile, Topuria, the original champion, showed support for Pimblett on social media, signaling he’s rooting for him over Gaethje. UFC has confirmed that the winner of UFC 324 will face Topuria to unify the lightweight title once he returns to competition in late 2026.

Fan Take: This controversy highlights how different paths to the UFC title can ignite passionate debate among fans and fighters alike. For fight fans, it means UFC 324 will be a must-watch event that could reshape the lightweight division’s hierarchy and set up future blockbuster showdowns.
