As the 2025 NFL season nears its conclusion, the Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions are fiercely competing for a playoff berth with just five games left. The Thursday Night Football opener in Week 14 features the Cowboys visiting the Lions at 8:15 p.m. ET, with postseason hopes hanging in the balance for both squads.

Dallas (6-5-1) secured a surprising playoff spot following a three-game winning streak, which included a close 31-28 win against the Kansas City Chiefs last week. Currently, they trail the reigning Super Bowl champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, by 1.5 games in the NFC East, and are targeting the third wild-card spot in the NFC, held by the 9-4 San Francisco 49ers.

Detroit (7-5) has stumbled recently, dropping three of their last five games, placing them two games behind the NFC North-leading Chicago Bears (9-3). They also trail the 49ers by 1.5 games in the wild-card race. A defeat on Thursday would seriously damage both Detroit’s and Dallas’ chances of making the playoffs.

In NBA action, five games are on the schedule, highlighted by the Golden State Warriors (11-11) facing the Philadelphia 76ers (11-9) at 7 p.m. ET at the Xfinity Mobile Arena. The Warriors embark on a three-game road trip after a mixed 2-3 home record, while the 76ers close out a three-game home stint.

The NHL has 10 games lined up, including a contest featuring the league-leading Colorado Avalanche (19-1-6) against the New York Islanders (14-10-3) at 7 p.m. ET. Colorado aims to stretch their winning streak to 18 games and maintain their unbeaten record in regulation this season.

In current betting odds, the Lions are favored by 3 points over the Cowboys. The 76ers are 3.5-point favorites against the Warriors, and the Avalanche hold a -194 moneyline advantage over the Islanders.

NFL fans can catch the Lions-Cowboys game at 8:15 p.m. on Prime Video or stream it on Fubo with a free trial. Predictions slightly favor Dallas to cover the spread with a close 29-27 game expected. Meanwhile, experts suggest Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson may not have many receptions in this matchup.

For NBA followers, the 76ers-Warriors game airs at 7 p.m. on NBA TV with streaming available on Fubo. Despite Warriors star Stephen Curry being out and Jimmy Butler’s questionable status, models suggest a tight game with a slight edge towards the Warriors covering the spread, though some experts favor the 76ers to win.

Hockey enthusiasts can watch the Avalanche-Islanders game at 7 p.m. on ESPN+ or via Fubo. Colorado is heavily favored, aiming for another victory, while expert bettors feel the Islanders might cover the puck line due to the Avalanche starting a backup goalie.

Fan Take: This update is crucial for basketball fans as it highlights the intensity of midseason matchups and potential superstar absences like Stephen Curry’s, which can shift team dynamics and outcomes. It underscores how unpredictable and exciting basketball seasons can be, keeping fans on the edge of their seats and shaping the playoff landscape.
