Battle Ahead: Vegas Golden Knights Face Off Against New Jersey Devils – Game Preview

The New Jersey Devils will conclude their four-game home stand tonight by facing the Las Vegas Golden Knights. The Devils have struggled recently on home ice, suffering three consecutive losses after an unbeaten start in regulation at home this season.

Seeking to break their losing streak, the Devils (16-10-1) are set to take on the Golden Knights (12-6-8). This morning, New Jersey recalled forward Angus Cruikshank from the Utica Comets. Cruikshank has appeared in 17 games this season for the Comets, recording five goals and two assists. With NHL experience from 21 games over two seasons with the Ottawa Senators, where he totaled two goals and four assists, he is eager for his opportunity with the Devils, expressing excitement ahead of his potential debut.

The morning skate lineup was adjusted with Cruikshank’s addition. Jacob Markstrom is expected to start in goal, supported by Jake Allen. Head coach Sheldon Keefe emphasized the importance of a balanced lineup against a team that challenges their shifts, also noting that injuries have influenced changes. Key injured Devils include J. Hughes (finger), Pesce (upper body), Dadonov (hand), Kovacevic (knee), McLaughlin (undisclosed), and McEwen (upper body).

The Golden Knights come into the game on a two-game winning streak, having recently defeated the San Jose Sharks and Chicago Blackhawks. They rank third in the NHL in faceoff percentage at 53.9% and have fewer injuries, with players such as Lauzon, Hill, Karlsson, and Pietrangelo sidelined.

Both teams are eager to gain momentum: the Devils want to stop their losing streak, while the Golden Knights aim for a third straight win. This match marks their first meeting this season, with a rematch scheduled for December 17.

Jesper Bratt stressed the need for a top-level performance to secure a win, highlighting the importance of a strong first period and solid defense by limiting access to the inside of the ice. The puck drops at 7 p.m.

Fan Take: This matchup is crucial as it showcases the intensity of NHL battles where form and momentum can shift quickly. Hockey fans should watch closely to see how injuries and new player additions, like Cruikshank, impact team dynamics and possibly alter the course of the season for both squads.
