Mexican pugilists Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz and Lamont Roach Jr., both renowned for challenging lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis fiercely, are set to clash this Saturday in a pay-per-view event in San Antonio. This fight, for the WBC junior welterweight interim title, will headline the Premier Boxing Champions event at Frost Bank Center, airing on Prime Video PPV at 8 p.m. ET. Additionally, Stephen Fulton Jr. will contest WBC junior lightweight champion Oshakie Foster for a third-division title in the co-main event.

Isaac Cruz, a tenacious fighter from Mexico City with a record of 28-3-1 and 18 knockouts, gained significant recognition after narrowly losing to Davis in 2021. Lamont Roach Jr., from Maryland and holding a 25-1-2 record with 10 knockouts, previously faced Davis in a lightweight bout that ended controversially in a draw. Davis initially planned a rematch with Roach but opted instead to fight Jake Paul, a plan that collapsed after Davis faced allegations of domestic violence.

Cruz, 27, a former 140-pound champion, will headline his first PPV event and is expected to have strong support from the Texas crowd. Roach, 30, moving up in weight again, is considered the betting favorite and is known for his ability to upset top contenders. Both fighters see this match as a crucial opportunity to solidify their status as standout stars in boxing.

Roach did not publicly contest the controversial draw with Davis, choosing instead to focus on moving forward and improving. He sees a win against Cruz as a gateway to more high-profile fights in the 135- and 140-pound classes. Cruz believes that the victor should face the winner between Teofimo Lopez Jr. and Shakur Stevenson, whose bout is scheduled for January 31.

Expect a fast-paced fight blending technical skill and aggressive exchanges. Cruz applies relentless pressure but can box tactically, while Roach is a natural counter-puncher capable of trading blows when necessary. Both fighters promise an exciting showdown.

The original co-main event featuring a middleweight unification bout was canceled after Janibek Alimkhanuly tested positive for a banned substance, but Erislandy Lara remains on the card to face Johan Gonzalez in a middleweight bout.

Fight details:
– Date: Saturday, December 6th
– Venue: Frost Bank Center, San Antonio, Texas
– Time: 8 p.m. ET
– Streaming: Prime Video PPV, $74.99

Betting odds have Roach as the favorite at -235 over Cruz’s +180 for the interim title. Other fights on the card include Stephen Fulton vs. Oshakie Foster, Erislandy Lara vs. Johan Gonzalez, and Jesus Ramos vs. Shane Mosley Jr.

Fan Take: This matchup matters because it features two fighters with proven resilience and skill, both on the cusp of major stardom. The fight’s outcome could reshape the junior welterweight division and set the stage for an exciting new rivalry that could captivate boxing fans worldwide.
