Manchester United spent nearly £200m in the summer and big money will once again be spent on strengthening Ruben Amorim’s squad in 2026. New midfielders and forwards are needed and two of their main targets are in the Premier League.

It’s no secret that Manchester United are interested in Nottingham Forest’s Elliott Anderson to solve their midfield problems, but now it has been revealed that Antoine Semenyo is on the lookout to provide attacking support to summer signings Matheus Cunha, Brian Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko.

According to Football Insider, Mick Brown has confirmed Man United’s interest in Anderson and Semenyo, but estimates they would need to spend £170m to sign both players.

“The player they were looking at is Semenyo. United need to spend January strengthening their squad and he is a player they wanted to sign over the summer before signing the deal. “It would make a lot of sense as he could also fill the void left by Mbeumo if the opportunity opened up.

“We are looking at bringing in people like Semenyo and Elliott Anderson. They are top targets for Amorim because they both bring real improvement in key areas to the team. They will fill any holes where problems may arise, give energy and drive to the team and help United take another step towards success.”

“We would need to spend around £170 million on them to make them a top-level team that could compete for silver. Personally I don’t think that will happen, but they are interested in signing both of them and if they can do that in January then they probably will. Other teams will be interested as well so it won’t be easy by any stretch of the imagination, but I think they are both players we need.”

Man United have spent big in recent years but are still struggling to reassert themselves as one of the forces in English football. Anderson and Semenyo will help in their efforts, but that £170m could be spent on addressing multiple areas of Amorim’s squad, including defence.
