Bulls Rookie Noah Esseng Out for Season Following Shoulder Surgery

Chicago Bulls rookie Noah Esseng is set to have surgery on his left shoulder once the season concludes. The team confirmed on Saturday, echoing what coach Billy Donovan mentioned earlier, that the procedure is necessary and the expected recovery time is six to seven months. Although Esseng initially sustained what was thought to be just a contusion during a G League game, the injury proved to be more serious.

Selected 12th in last June’s draft, Esseng demonstrated impressive athleticism and potential during the Summer League but also showed signs of inexperience. He became notable mostly for an unfortunate meme during his first trip to Las Vegas. The Bulls decided to address his injury now to ensure he has ample time to develop his skills over the summer, though it’s uncertain if he will participate in the next Summer League.

This season, Esseng has only been on the court for six minutes with the Bulls. Meanwhile, in four games in the G League, he averaged 23 points per game with a 50.8% shooting rate and pulled down 8.5 rebounds per game.

Fan Take: This news is significant for basketball fans because Esseng’s early potential suggests he could be a future standout, but the injury and subsequent surgery delay his immediate impact. How he recovers and develops over the next year will be crucial for both his career trajectory and the Bulls’ long-term success.
