James Harden Surges Past Carmelo Anthony to Secure Spot in NBA’s Elite Top 10 Scorers

James Harden, despite having his critics, stands as one of the most efficient scorers in NBA history. On Saturday, he reached a significant milestone during the third quarter against the Minnesota Timberwolves by surpassing Carmelo Anthony to claim 10th place on the NBA’s all-time scoring list with 28,290 points. Among active players, only LeBron James (ranked 1st) and Kevin Durant (8th) are ahead of him.

Harden’s scoring prowess is highlighted by his free-throw ability, a key element given his playing style. In the game, he scored 34 points on 10-of-18 shooting and contributed six assists, five rebounds, four steals, and four turnovers. Despite his strong performance, the Clippers fell short, losing 109-106 to the Timberwolves.

Currently, the Clippers have a disappointing 6-18 record, the second-worst in the Western Conference. The team has been plagued by challenges, including Kawhi Leonard’s scandal and turmoil linked to Chris Paul, making it a tough start for a franchise that aimed to be competitive this season.

Harden’s scoring became especially prolific after joining the Houston Rockets, where he developed into an analytics-driven player emphasizing three-pointers and drawing fouls for free throws. This approach not only transformed his game but also earned him MVP honors and consistent All-Star selections. He now ranks second in NBA history for three-pointers (behind Stephen Curry) and fifth in free throws made, while also holding notable ranks in assists and turnovers.

Looking ahead, if Harden maintains his current average of 21.0 points per game over the next three seasons, he could add another 4,321 points, surpassing Michael Jordan to move into fifth place and challenge Kobe Bryant for fourth on the all-time scoring list.
