Candace Parker Urges Aji Fuad to Stay Put, Avoid Joining Paige Backers in Dallas

Former WNBA star Candace Parker expressed hopes that Aji Fudd won’t join Paige Backers in Dallas. Currently enjoying her last year at university, Fudd is widely expected to enter the WNBA soon, where Backers is already making waves as a top rookie for the Dallas Wings.

While Fudd’s talent promises a bright future in the league, Parker suggested on her podcast “Post Moves With Candace Parker” that Fudd might thrive more if she played for a different team. Parker and co-host Aliyah Boston believe Fudd would be a perfect match for the Minnesota Lynx, praising the team’s style and competitive roster. They also mentioned Notre Dame’s Olivia Miles as a potential player who could effectively challenge Paige Backers’ team.

Parker said, “For Azzi, Minnesota would be an ideal spot because they have a strong team dynamic.” Although other teams like the Seattle Storm could also be good options, the ultimate decision depends on what benefits Dallas most, rather than Fudd’s personal preferences. Boston added that Olivia Miles could be intriguing for the Wings if they hold on to their draft pick.

Discussing Backers’ role, Boston highlighted her ability to initiate offense effectively, while Parker noted that Miles could bring a faster pace and excellent passing to the game.

From a tactical perspective, Fudd’s playing style fits seamlessly with the Lynx’s offensive strategy, which emphasizes movement, screens, and quick shots—a style that suits her well. She could also contribute much-needed shooting from beyond the arc. Conversely, while a reunion with Backers on the Wings would be a compelling narrative, Dallas currently needs stronger interior play upfront. Moreover, as Fudd is likely to be the top pick in the WNBA Draft, there would be added pressure on a rebuilding Dallas team to incorporate such a high-profile rookie.

Fan Take: This discussion highlights how crucial team fit is for a rookie’s success and the strategic planning required in the WNBA draft. Fudd joining the Lynx instead of the Wings could not only shape her career but also shift the balance of power in the league, exciting fans eager to see fresh talent impact the sport.
