Gervonta Davis Speaks Out on Jake Paul Fight Fallout Following Anthony Joshua Signing

Gervonta Davis has stated that Jake Paul called off their fight because he got hit during sparring, dismissing the YouTuber’s claim that the cancellation was due to a legal dispute. The fight, which was supposed to air on Netflix in November, was abruptly canceled after Paul faced a civil lawsuit filed by his ex-girlfriend Courtney Rosell in Miami-Dade County, Florida, in late October.

Paul is now set to face a more formidable challenge on December 19th, when he will fight two-time unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua. However, Davis believes the real reason for their canceled bout is different than publicly stated.

Recently, Davis reactivated his X (formerly Twitter) account after months of inactivity to reveal his perspective on the cancellation. He praised Paul’s performance in training but admitted he refrained from causing serious harm, hinting at destiny playing a role in the fight not happening. Davis also dismissed the allegations made against him in the lawsuit, calling them unfounded and suggesting his accuser has a pattern of pursuing men for money. Additionally, he criticized Paul’s promotional company, Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), labeling it ineffective and stating that veteran promoter Al Haymon had to step in to manage the operations instead.

Meanwhile, Logan Paul, Jake Paul’s brother, explained in a recent live stream that the fight was canceled due to Davis’ ongoing personal issues beyond the lawsuit. He pointed out that Davis has persistent troubles related to his relationships with women and emphasized the need for support in his corner.

Fan Take: This saga underscores how off-ring issues can disrupt high-profile boxing matches, impacting the sport’s marketability and fan engagement. For fighting enthusiasts, it’s a reminder that personal conduct and legal battles can be as influential as ring skills in shaping the landscape of modern combat sports.
