Celtic Sets Sights on Manchester City Keeper Stefan Ortega

Celtic is reportedly interested in acquiring Stefan Ortega from Manchester City in 2026, according to a recent newspaper report from Football Insider. Ortega’s contract with Manchester City is set to expire at the end of this season, allowing him to leave the Premier League club for free next summer.

Journalist Pete O’Rourke noted, “It’s clear that Celtic’s recruitment team is aiming to bolster their goalkeeping roster.” He suggested that Ortega would be an appropriate addition, especially as he will be available as a free agent in the upcoming summer.

O’Rourke explained that Ortega has fallen out of favor at Manchester City, with players like Gianluigi Donnarumma, James Trafford, and Marcus Bettinelli ahead of him in the pecking order. He emphasized that if Celtic is in search of a new goalkeeper when Schmeichel’s contract ends, Ortega could be a valuable player to sign without a transfer fee. With his extensive experience at a top club like Manchester City, Ortega is noted for his ability to effectively manage the ball, which aligns with the style of play that Wilfred Nancy aims to implement at Celtic.

This potential move is significant for soccer fans as it not only highlights Celtic’s ambition to strengthen their squad but also underscores the impact of free agency in shaping team dynamics. The arrival of a player with Ortega’s experience could enhance Celtic’s chances in domestic and European competitions, adding excitement to the upcoming season.
