West Ham manager Nuno Espirito Santo continues to evaluate his team ahead of the January transfer window. Midfield is a particular area of focus for the Portuguese, and some of his decisions included dropping a cult hero down the pecking order.

West Ham played Brighton on Sunday in a game that many expected them to lose, earning a very respectable 1-1 draw. However, it was a strong performance from Nuno’s team, with defense and midfield laying the foundation for the performance.

According to Hammers News, Tomas Soucek was expected to start after Nuno decided to leave Freddie Potts and Sungoutou Magassa on the bench, but in the end Guido Rodriguez, who had not been considered, was selected in the end, with the Czech Republic international being seen as giving a clear indication of his position at the London Stadium.

Soucek is currently considered a fifth or sixth choice defensive midfielder, indicating he has little future at West Ham. This opens the door for him to leave in January, but Everton will be happy for manager David Moyes, who is keen to reunite with the 30-year-old powerhouse.

Should West Ham sell Tomas Soucek in January?

Soucek has been an excellent player for West Ham since joining from Czech side Slavia Prague in 2020. He has made 245 appearances for the club, but given his bleak future, it may be difficult for him to make more appearances. The game against Brighton seemed to make it clear that Nuno is not counting on him and it is clear that the next step will be for the player and the club to explore a move in January.
